Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse (RN) for a contract opportunity in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will provide expert, compassionate care to critically ill patients in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
The ICU is a multidisciplinary unit providing care for neurological, neurosurgical, medical, surgical, pulmonary, cardiology, cardiothoracic, and trauma patients. Nurses in this unit must be confident in using advanced technology and critical-thinking skills to manage complex patient conditions.
Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, evidence-based, and patient-centered care to critically ill patients.
- Monitor, assess, and interpret hemodynamic and cardiac parameters using advanced equipment.
- Manage life-sustaining therapies such as ventilators, ECMO, IABP, CRRT, and cardiac support devices (Impella, tandem heart).
- Administer and titrate critical care medications, including vasoactive drips.
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary care teams to optimize outcomes.
- Document patient assessments, interventions, and responses accurately in Cerner EMR.
- Support patients’ families through clear communication and compassionate care.
Unit Technology Includes:
Ventilators, ventriculostomies, cardiac monitors, pulmonary artery catheters, arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, IABP, ECMO/tandem heart, Impella devices, BIS monitors, continuous pulse oximetry, CRRT, gastric tubes, and intravenous infusion pumps.
Qualifications

Required Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)

Licensure:
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington, DC
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington, DC

Experience:

Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience required

Cerner EMR experience required

Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience required

Education:
- Graduate of an accredited or NLN-approved RN program – Required

BSN – Highly desired
- Graduate of an accredited or NLN-approved RN program – Required
